The Planeterrella at Palais de la Découverte in Paris

<menu27>

The Palais de la Découverte in Paris is the largest space dedicated to scientific mediation France. I do not know a single French scientific researcher who, as a child, did not dream there (including me). The Planeterrella is the result of the will of Kamil Fadel, head of the physics department, Fabien Banaji, a great technician, and Brigitte Zana, who signed the contract on behalf of the Palace. It was first shown in April 2015 and gave me a shock : it is even more beautiful than the Grenoble Planeterrella !

Fabien pampered it with great expertise, improving the electric nozzle and taking care of many details, so that the auroral ovals are sharper than ever. He built an ingenious box to easily make electrical changes, and invented lightweight and easy-to-handle magnet holders in the spheres.Fabien is located next to the manipulation in the den of his workshop on the following photograph :

Before being put on display for the public, it will be improved, and by the grace of the gentleman agreement and of the great spirit of public service of the Palace, progresses will be shared with all owners of Planeterrellas.
When this Planeterrella was completed, we estimated to 70,000 the number of people in Europe and in the US who have seen auroras through this experience. The Palace receives tens of thousands of visitors per year. It is certain that he will make this figure literally explode !
